Kincaid has crafted only solid wood furniture for over 50 years. Each piece begins with selection of the finest hardwoods, and combines the most efficient equipment and fine craftsmanship. It is finished to a rich, hand-rubbed patina, resulting in furniture that is one of the best values in today's market. Kincaid furniture is both beautiful and built to last for generations.
All lumber used in Kincaid furniture is air and kiln dried to achieve an optimal moisture level of 6%-8%. This ensures the dimensional stability of the finished product in different climates and seasons. After drying, the lumber is taken to the rough end department where it is cut into exact lengths in order to harvest the greatest yield from the raw material. Defects in the wood are removed during this operation. After cutting, the lumber is taken to the glue reels which clamp and glue the pieces firmly together. The grain direction of each piece of lumber is alternated in this process to prevent warping and cracking.
Next, solid boards and posts are machined and carved into the components of individual pieces. Then these components are assembled by time-honored furniture craftsmanship. All drawers use dove-tail construction to ensure proper fit and long life. Chair legs and bed posts are carved from solid wood posts for extra strength and beauty. By design, Kincaid furniture tops "float", which means they are able to expand or contract with the relative humidity of your home. Each corner is blocked, screwed and glued for durability. Chair backs are steam-bent for strength and good looks.
